Dr Tony Matthews (born 1949) is an Australian author and historian.[1] Born in Swansea, South Wales, United Kingdom he emigrated to Australia in 1972. He worked for television for several years working for Darling Downs Television in Toowoomba and SEQ Television in Maryborough. His first book, This Dawning Land was completed in 1986 and since then has written/directed 13 television documentaries and over 500 programs for ABC radio.

He has written over thirty published books.[citation needed]
