BR-262 is an east-west highway connecting the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.[1][2]
The highway runs from Vitória state capital of Espírito Santo to the Bolivian border at Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul.[3][4]
BR-262 is the deadliest highway in Brazil for wildlife (and one of the deadliest in the world), with an immense toll in terms of roadkill. Researchers have found large numbers of birds, reptiles, and mammals dead from car collisions on the highway. Affected species include caimans, anacondas, and jabirus.[5]
