He attended Abraham Lincoln High School before accepting admittance to New York University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree of arts in economics. However, after the death of his uncle he began to pursue a career in medicine and enrolled at the New York University Medical Scientist Training Program where he received both his doctor of medicine and his doctorate in economics in 1979.[1]
