Roland Got was a Chinese American character actor who worked in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s.[1]

Biography

Roland was born in San Francisco, California, to William Got and Lilly Leong. His mother was a seamstress, and his dad worked as a shirt manufacturer.[2] The family later moved to Los Angeles, where Roland and his siblings attended Jefferson High School.[3] In L.A., Roland—a talented artist—also played on a semi-pro football team.[4]

In 1937, he got his big break when he was cast in the 1937 film The Good Earth.[2] He would later appear in over a dozen more films after training at the Motion Picture Academy. He married Grace Chew, and the pair had a child together. His film career came to an end during World War II, when he was drafted and joined the U.S. Army.[5]

After the war, he began working as an insurance salesman. Sadly, he died at the age of 32 when he fell off a ferry in the San Francisco Bay.[6]
