Japjup is a small village in Lakhimpur district, Assam, near Bihpuria. It is populated by approximately 60families. It was founded in 1900 by migrants from Majuli,Jorhat to cultivate crops.

It is said that in ancient times there were two ponds that were joined together in an earthquake, hence the name .Thus now there are two japjups;No-1 and No-2,all together more or less 250 families. Jap jup M.V. school nd changali Goan LP school is the centre for primary education in the village. The occupation of the most of the people in both the villages is cultivation. With a riverside scenic beauty of the place, the people are simple and sober and very rich in Vaishnavite culture with well maintained Naamghars. The 'Bihu Uruowa Utsav' of Rngali bihu celebrated every year in Japjup-1 is a rich folkbase gettogether for the people of the area.
