WRBS-FM, known as 95.1 SHINE-FM (pronounced "Ninety Five One SHINE-FM"), is a commercially licensed FM radio station in Baltimore, Maryland, serving the Baltimore-Washington, D.C.metropolitan area). Part of Brighter Media Group, it is owned and operated by Peter & John Radio Fellowship, Inc., a non-profit Christian organization founded in 1948 in Baltimore.The station airs positive, contemporary Christian music. Its studios and transmitter are co-located in unincorporated Baltimore County northwest of Baltimore City.
In addition to its standard analog transmission on 95.1FM, SHINE-FM broadcasts over HD Radio on its 95.1-2 sub-channel. It also streams online at 951SHINEFM.com; its app can be downloaded in the Apple and Google Play app stores; and it has an Amazon Alexa skill available by asking Alexa to "enable SHINE-FM" or enabling it directly through the Amazon Alexa app.
History
1964
In 1964, Peter & John Radio Fellowship, Inc., acquired WRBS (95.1). Its format included ministry teaching programs and Christian music until 2009.
WRBS upgraded its facilities in 1972, to 50kW and 24 hours daily as part of a move from East Cold Spring Lane in Baltimore to its present site at 3500 Commerce Drive.
On August 3, 2009, WRBS-FM was re-branded as 95.1 SHINE-FM, featuring contemporary Christian music by artists including MercyMe, Lauren Daigle, for KING & COUNTRY, Tauren Wells, Hillsong United, and more.
In September 2011, 95.1 SHINE-FM was recognized by the Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB) as the Major Market Station of the Year at its annual Echo Awards in Orlando, Florida.
On January 1st, 2019, SHINE-FM introduced a new format that reduced commercials by 60%, allowing the station to play more music.
