The 1972 Nicholls State Colonels football team represented Nicholls State University in the 1972 NCAA College Division football season. The Colonels were led by first-year head coach Gary Kinchen. They played their home games at Colonel Stadium and were a member of the Gulf South Conference. They finished the season 3–8, 1–5 in Gulf South play.
