The 1981 San Francisco State Gators football team represented San Francisco State University during the 1981 NCAA Division II football season.
San Francisco State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 1] The Gators were led by head coach Vic Rowen in his 21st year at the helm. They played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. The team finished the season with a record of three wins and seven losses (3–7, 0–5 FWC). For the season the team outscored its opponents 171–162.
