Basil Roberts
Basil Coleby Roberts DD MA (Cantab)[1] (23 September 1887- 3 February 1957)[2] was an Anglican bishop[3] in the first half of the 20th century.[4]
Born into a clerical family — his father was Henry Eugene Roberts[5] — he was educated at Marlborough College and Pembroke College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1912,[6] his first post was as a Curate at St Jude's, Salterhebble.[7] He was a Lecturer at St Augustine's College, Canterbury from 1913 to 1922.[8] He was Chaplain of Selangor[9] from 1922 to 1927[10] when he became Bishop of Singapore,[11] a post he held until 1940. The following year he became Warden of St Augustine's[12] and an Assistant Bishop of Canterbury (both until 1955).[5]
