Chandler (or Chandler Siding) is a rail siding in the Australian state of South Australia located in the north-west corner of the state on the Adelaide-Darwin railway about 56 kilometres (35 mi) north of the town of Marla. It is located near the junction of the Stuart Highway and the entry to the Aboriginal lands of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara people. The South Australian Government have had plans to build a freight logistics hub at the siding in the past.[3][1]
It is one of nine sidings proclaimed on 18 May 1978 to be built along the then new Tarcoola to Alice Springs railway.[2] It was named by the state government after a telegraph operator who lived nearby in 1872.[1]
Chandler is accessible by train. The Ghan, run by Great Southern Rail between Adelaide and Darwin arrives twice weekly in each direction.[4] There is also a bus stop located on the highway.[citation needed]
