Skåbu Church

Skåbu is a village in Nord-Fron municipality, Innlandet county, Norway. It has 600 inhabitants.

Skåbu is situated 870m above sea level and is the highest permanently inhabited village in northern Europe.

Name

The village is named after the old farm Skåbu (Norse Skaðabú). The first element is the genitive case of skaði ('damage') - or the male name Skaði. The last element is ('farm').

Climate

Due to its high altitude, it has a subarctic climate which is even colder than some arctic areas.
