The Mystery of Sasassa Valley (Russian:Тайна долины Сэсасса[1]) is the first story[2] by Arthur Conan Doyle to be published, in 1879.[3][4]

"The Mystery of Sasassa Valley" appeared anonymously in Chambers's Edinburgh Journal on September 6, 1879.[5] The story is set in a valley in South Africa inhabited by a demon with glowing eyes.[6]
