Arthur Virgilio do Carmo Ribeiro Neto (born November 15, 1945) better known as Arthur Virgilio or Arthur Neto, is a Brazilian politician and lawyer, member and one of the founders of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party. Was elected twice to the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies between 1982 and 1986 and was also elected Mayor of his hometown, Manaus, in 1988 and again in 2012, being sworn in to the post in 1989 and again in 2013.[1] Virgílio was a Senator for the State of Amazonas[2] and one of the opposition leaders in the Brazilian senate of then-President Lula da Silva,[3] is currently Mayor of Manaus, Brazil, being re-elected for the office in 2016,[3] for the period 2017 until 2021.[1]
