The Australian Ambassador to Zimbabwe is the Australian Government’s foremost diplomatic representative in Zimbabwe. The High Commission in Harare (known as Salisbury until 1982) was established in 1980 and the Ambassador also holds non-resident accreditation as High Commissioner to Zambia, Malawi and as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo.[1] There existed a resident High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia from 1983 to 1991, when responsibility for relations with Zambia was transferred to the High Commission in Harare. Relations with Zambia from 1972 to 1983 were the responsibility of the High Commission in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania.[2]
