Wednesbury Strollers F.C. were an English football club based in Wednesbury, Staffordshire who were active in the 1870s and 1880s.
The club was founded in 1875 and played at Wood Green Lane, Wednesbury and later at The Trapezium Ground.[1]
FA Cup
The club entered the FA Cup during the four seasons from 1878–79 to 1881–1882, without any conspicuous success. Their FA Cup record was:
- 1878–79 – defeated in Round One by Oxford University 0–7
- 1879–80 – defeated in Round One by Stafford Road 0–2
- 1880–81 – defeated in Round One by Aston Villa 3–5
- 1881–82 – victory in Round One over Stafford Road 3–1
- 1881–82 – defeated in Round Two by Notts County 2–5 (The Football Association (FA) ordered a replay after a protest)
- 1881–82 – defeated in Round Two replay by Notts County 1–11[2]
Notable players
Alf Harvey was registered as a Wednesbury Strollers player when he made his solitary appearance for England in February 1881.[3]
