The Ellis Guilford School & Sports College is a secondary comprehensive school in Bar Lane, Basford, Nottingham. The school provides education for students aged 11–16.
History
The school promotes the belief that everyone can achieve and work hard to achieve education, guidance and support that is right for them. A new sports hall has been added. [when?] It has a variety of sports fields for football, basketball and others. The school also offers numerous after-school activities such as computer and football clubs.[citation needed]
The school was widely criticised in January 2018 after introducing a ban on pupils cycling to school. Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman said the school was "punishing pupils who had done nothing wrong", while Sarah Storey, Britain's most successful female Paralympian, said it would "formulate opinions in pupils that marginalising is acceptable".[1]
On 1 November 2018 Ellis Guilford joined the Creative Education Trust (CET) and converted to Academy status.[citation needed]
Academic performance
Results in 2016 were "well below the national average".[2]
The school has won an award for the best school for healthy living in Nottingham. It also holds specialist Sports College status. The curriculum aims to meet the needs of all learners.
Over the last three years, the school has been rated amongst the top five per cent of similar schools in the country for adding value to children's education. [citation needed]
