Articulavirales is the only order of viruses in the monotypic class Insthoviricetes.

The name Articulavirales comes from the Latin articulata (segmented) added to the suffix for virus orders -virales.[2] Insthoviricetes derives from a contraction of influenza, Isavirus, and Thogotovirus along with -viricetes, the suffix for a virus class.[2]
