Fred Myrow
Fredric Myrow (July 16, 1939 – January 14, 1999) was an American composer.[citation needed] He is known for composing the soundtracks for Phantasm, Soylent Green[1] and Scarecrow.
Biography
Myrow was the son of Josef Myrow[2] and grandson of Irving Mills. In 1969 he married actress Elana Eden. They had 3 children together and remained married to his death in 1999 at age 59.[3]
Career
Myrow was a friend of Jim Morrison[4] and provided the music for Morrison's experimental film HWY: An American Pastoral.[citation needed]
Myrow co-wrote the score for the film Phantasm in 1979.[5] In 2015, the soundtrack was re-released on vinyl.[6][7]
Myrow was also a pianist, and performed live concerts of his compositions.[8]
The American pianist Brad Mehldau dedicated a song in his solo piano suite Elegiac Cycle to Myrow, entitled "Goodbye Storyteller (for Fred Myrow)". Myrow had died two weeks before Mehldau's recording.
