Red Dawn Foster is an American politician, currently serving as a member of the South Dakota Senate from the 27th district.[1]

Early life and education

Foster was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.[2] Foster is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.[3]

Career

Foster has worked as a business and entrepreneurship instructor at the Red Cloud Economic Development Initiative and Red Cloud Indian School. She also worked as a field organizer for former U.S. Senator Tom Daschle. Foster was elected to the South Dakota House in 2018, succeeding incumbent Kevin Killer, who was retiring. She took office in 2019.[4]

In 2019, Foster appeared on C-SPAN to discuss a proposal to legalize hemp in South Dakota.[5][6]
