According to Shirer, Bismarck was sunk by gunfire and torpedoes (Shirer does not discuss the possibility that the ship was scuttled as was later hypothesized by Robert Ballard). Also, the Royal navy was responsible for pursuing the ship, with little participation from other nations. It was not the Allies.).
