The single is written and produced by the Mael brothers and was released as the second single from their 1994 album, Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins The single peaked on number 36 in the UK and number 24 on Billboard'sHot Dance Club Play chart in the US. First it was released as "(When I Kiss You) I Hear Charlie Parker Playing", then it was re-named "When I Kiss You (I Hear Charlie Parker Playing)". It also peaked at number 61 in Germany.
