Sunde was in the childhood and adolescents, a very promising speedskater representing "Gjøvik Skøiteklub". He skated 500 meters at 41.5 seconds, only 17 years old, which in 1971 was an impressive achievement. Speedskater Sunde participated in three sprint NM (Norgesmesterskap) in 1971, 1972 and 1973, with a 9th place as the best in 1973.[4]
