Toma de Mercedes was the takeover of the city of Mercedes by the Ejército Blanco under the command of Timoteo Aparicio.[1] The capture took place on August 25, 1870 during the Revolución de las Lanzas in the Banda Oriental.[2]
In the ranks of the revolutionary army served prominent Blancos military men like Anacleto Medina and Gerónimo Amilivia.[3] Among the leaders of the Colorado party who took part in the defense of the city was Juan Idiarte Borda, future Uruguayan president.[4]
