Shapeshifter is the debut EP album by progressive metal band The Contortionist, this and Sporadic Movements album are their only albums to have a more traditional deathcore sound than their later work that shows a progressive metal and technical death metal sound. This is the only album by The Contortionist to feature vocalist Jake Morris who was later replaced by Dave Hoffman. The interlude in Non-Manual Dexterity was later re-worked into Eyes: Closed, itself entirely reworked into Flourish.

During this time a song named “Predator Posing As A House Pet" was released through the band's MySpace account, but wasn't released until Apparition (EP), remastered and with the name "Predator".
