Calumpit station is a former railway station of the Ferrocarril de Manila-Dagupan, now the Philippine National Railways
History
The Calumpit railway station has been used for passenger and freight transportation by Philippine National Railways and its precursors in the past, with it being part of the former Manila-Dagupan line. The station was supposed to be rebuilt as part of the Northrail project, a construction of a railway line from Manila to Pampanga which would partly use the old right-of-way. The project was commenced in 2007 but it was halted due to the NBN–ZTE deal corruption scandal in which the Northrail project is included.[1][2][3][4][5]
Revival
On February 2018, the Department of Transportation announced their plans in reviving the Northrail project. The station is planned to be included in the 69-km second phase of construction of the new North–South Commuter Railway which will cover the areas from Malolos to Clark Field in Pampanga.[6][1]
