The 1971 Sacramento State Hornets football team represented Sacramento State College[note 1] during the 1971 NCAA College Division football season.

Sacramento State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Hornets were led by head coach Ray Clemons in his eleventh season. They played home games at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California. The team finished the season with a record of four wins and five losses and one tie (4–5–1, 2–3–1 FWC). Overall, the team was outscored by its opponents 228–238 for the season.
