The Gegenees (gee-GEH-neh-ees, from Gr. Γηγενεῖς Gêgeneês; sing. Γηγενής Gêgenês - meaning "earth-born") were a race of six-armed giants who inhabited the same island as the Doliones in the ancient Greek epic Argonautica.[1] Their alternate name is Gegeines.

Mythology

Jason and the Argonauts landed on an island where the Gegenees resided. The Argonauts fought them and unknowingly left Heracles on the island where he continued to fight them. The Argonauts returned and were able to help Heracles fight them off.

  • Gegeines appears in Disney's Hercules voiced by Brad Garrett in "Hercules and the Argonauts" and by Frank Welker in "Hercules and the Big Games." This version has the appearance of a six-armed Yeti-like creature that the local nymphs must appease by offering the humans that visit them to it.
  • The Gegenees appear in the Rick Riordan books The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, and The Blood of Olympus as part of The Heroes of Olympus series. They are shown to be in service to the Gigantes.
  • In the Black Ops 4 DLC Zombies Map "Ancient Evil," the creature serves as a main antagonist who uses his multi-armed form to attack the player with flaming spears, as well as using a “shield blast” attack. The creature also supplied items in order for the player to complete the map’s main quest, with the provision of the Golden Spear for the “Scepter and Sundial” part of the quest.
