Imagens do Inconsciente (literally Images of the Unconscious) is a 1988 Brazilian documentary film by Leon Hirszman, about three schizophrenic patients treated by the psychiatric doctor Nise da Silveira at the then Psychiatric Center Pedro II.[1][2]
Plot
Based on clinical cases and therapies, based on a humanistic approach and artistic expression, conducted by the pioneering psychiatrist Nise da Silveira (also co-writer on the project), at the Psychiatric Center Pedro II, the film recounts the story of Fernando Diniz, Adelina Gomes and Carlos Pertuis who, through highly expressive paintings, establish a bridge between its most intimate interiors and the most acute reality. The documentary was divided into three episodes: Em Busca do Espaço Cotidiano (about Fernando Diniz), No Reino das Mães (about Adelina Gomes) and A Barca do Sol (about Carlos Pertuis).

Release
Although he completed editing the film, Hirszman died a year before its release, which would take place at a session at the Museum of Image and Sound in São Paulo, in May 1988.[2][1]
