The 1972 UC Riverside Highlanders football team represented UC Riverside during the 1972 NCAA College Division football season.

UC Riverside competed in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The team was led by first-year head coach Wayne Howard. They played home games at Highlander Stadium in Riverside, California. The Highlanders finished the season as CCAA co-champion, with a record of nine wins and one loss (9–1, 3–0 CCAA). Overall, the team outscored its opponents 207–113 for the season.
