Darren Pyper, better known by his stage name Ghettosocks, is a Juno-nominated[1] Canadian hip hop artist and member of the Backburner collective.[2] In early 2010, Ghettosocks' album Treat of the Day spent several weeks at #1 on ChartAttack's Canadian Hip-Hop chart,[3] and his single "Don't Turn Around" won Rap/Hip‐Hop Single Track Recording of the Year at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards.[4]
In addition to his relative popularity in Canada, Ghettosocks has appeared on songs with such notable American alternative hip hop artists as Pharoahe Monch, Ras Kass, Roc Marciano, Percee P, Sadat X, and El Da Sensei; the latter is a frequent collaborator who has featured Ghettosocks and their mutual friend Timbuktu on his own projects. Ghettosocks has also twice worked with “the godfather of Canadian hip-hop”, Maestro Fresh Wes.
