Karen Sillas (born June 5, 1963) is an American stage and film actress. She graduated from the Acting Conservatory of the State University of New York. She is also a speech coach.

Early life

The daughter of a Greek father and a Swedish mother, Sillas was born in Brooklyn[1] and graduated from the Acting Conservatory of the State University of New York at Purchase .

Career

Sillas appeared in Hal Hartley's 1992 film Simple Men. In 1994, she starred in What Happened Was..., which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and launched Sillas into primetime television.[citation needed] In CBS's critically acclaimed[according to whom?] detective series Under Suspicion, Sillas portrayed Rose Phillips, the only female detective in an otherwise male-dominated squad room.[2] She also starred in several miniseries for television, including Peter Benchley's The Beast with William Petersen.

In the 1998–99 primetime television season, Sillas appeared on two of CBS's most acclaimed series, Touched by an Angel and Promised Land. She also appeared on the hit HBO series The Sopranos as Debbie.

Personal life

Sillas is married to writer Ivan Menchell. They have two daughters, Olivia and Lou. She was previously married to actor Peter Stormare.[citation needed]
