The 12.5 céntimo coin is formed by a series of novel features for Venezuela since its issuance by the monetary authority (BCV) since 2008. They have a diameter of 23 mm and a thickness of 1.30 mm. Its composition is plated steel in nickel. The edge (outer edge) of these coins has an aesthetically smooth design.

It was commonly known as locha.
