James Allen Latané (January 15, 1831 – February 21, 1902) was born in Essex County, Virginia. A graduate of the University of Virginia and Virginia Theological Seminary, Latané served as an Episcopal priest and later as a bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church. He was consecrated bishop on June 22, 1879, in Philadelphia, serving as the Presiding Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church from May, 1900 until his death.
