Kurup
Kurup is an Indian surname of a Nair sub caste. Martial art masters were generally conferred with the tilte Kalari Kurup and Nambi kurup. In olden days ,the barbers and funeral rite performers of Kaniyar community were called Kani kurup /pothuvan kurup or Kurup and now this sub-caste is almost vanished due to conversion to Ezhava.[1] There are several other castes also has this surname in relation with their hereditary occupational functions, the Kallatu Kurup, Kalam kurup, Vilkurup etc are some among them
