Pant or Panta/Pantha (Hindi: पंत) (Nepali: पन्त/पन्थ) are a group of surnames which are prevalent in India and Nepal.

Pant is part of a compound of North Indian and Marathi surnames of people with a Hindu Brahmin background. The Pant surname is derived from the title pandit, symbolizing the community's traditional commitment to scholarship.

People with Pant in their surname belong to the Marathi Brahmin and Kumauni Brahmin community, originally centered in Uttarakhand and to a lesser extent, Nepal. The ancestors of these families migrated from the western India, particularly from the Konkan area of Maharashtra to their current Himalayan home. Brahmins in Konkan area still retain "Pant" title in the middle names to indicate ancestral claims to ministership or high scholarship [citation needed]
