André Claro Amaral Ventura (Algueirão, Sintra, 15 January 1983[1][2]) is a Portuguese jurist, politician, professor and former sports pundit. In October 2019, he was elected as a member of the Portuguese national parliament, for the Lisbon District. Ventura was the first member of Chega, the party he founded, to be elected to the office.

Political career

Ventura had been a Loures city councillor, and a member of the Social Democratic Party, until resigning from both the council seat and the party in October 2018[3]. He is now the leader of the populist right-wing party Chega, having founded the party on 9 April 2019[4]. He also led the Basta! coalition in the 2019 European Parliament elections, failing to win any seats[5]. In the 2019 Portuguese legislative elections, he was elected Member of Parliament for the Lisbon constituency, as his party won one seat.[3]
