The Springfield Browns were a Class B minor league baseball team based in Springfield, Illinois. The Springfield Browns were members of the Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League in 1931, 1938–1942 and 1946–1949.^[1]^[2]

Springfield played as the Springfield Senators in 1932–1933 and 1935.^[1]

The Springfield Browns were an affiliate of the St. Louis Browns.^[3]

The ballparks

The Springfield Browns played at Reservoir Park in 1931.^[4]

Beginning in 1936, the Springfield Browns played at Lanphier Park. ^[5]

Lanphier Park was built in 1925 at a cost of $49,000. Lanphier Park had a capacity of 4,500 and dimensions (Left, Center, Right): 320–400–320 (1939). Still in use today, Lanpnier Park is located at the intersection of Converse and Grand Avenues and 15th Street, Springfield, Illinois.^[6]

The ballpark is known today as Robin Roberts Stadium at Lanphier Park and is home to the Springfield Sliders, a collegiate summer league baseball team that plays as a member of the Prospect League.^[6]^[7]
