Bellevue is a village in the commune of Iracoubo, French Guiana.
Overview
Bellevue is an Amerindian village on Route nationale 1, eight kilometres past Iracoubo,[1] on the way to Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. The population is under one thousand. In the village, there are a couple of shops, however the nearest accommodationc are in Iracoubo.[2] The village has a school.[3]
Kali'nas (also known as Galibis) are still living in Bellevue[4] and maintain some of their traditions (fishing, danses).[5]
In 1997, Cécile Kouyouri became the first female Amerindian chief in French Guiana.[6] In 2018, the village was allocated 1,000 hectares of communal land.[6]
