Jame' Asr Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque (Malay: Masjid Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah) is a mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. It is one of the two national mosques, the other being Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.[1]
History
Jame' 'Asr Hassanal Bolkiah is a waqf of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the 29th and current Sultan of Brunei. The construction began in 1988 on a 20-acre site in Kiarong.[1] The mosque was inaugurated on 14 July 1994 with the Sultan attending the Maghrib and Isha prayers in conjunction with His Majesty's 48th birthday celebration.[1]
Building
The mosque can accommodate 5,000 worshipers at a time,[1] making it the largest mosque in the country.[2]
The mosque has 29 golden domes and four minarets with height of 58 metres (190 feet).[2]
