James Robert Otto was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa from 1948 to 1952, compiling a record of 27–23–3 and capturing an Iowa Conference title in 1952.[1]

Otto later served as the head football coach at the Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1953 to 1969, compiling a record of 74–70–7 and winning five conference titles.[2]

Otto was a native of Fort Dodge, Iowa and played on the 1939, 1940 and 1941 Iowa Hawkeye football teams.
