After Southern Pacific retired 1293 in 1957,[4] SP donated the locomotive for display in Dr. Powers Park in Tracy, California. It remains there to this day[when?] on static display, subject to deterioration caused by vandalism and exposure to weather.[5]
^A plaque affixed to the locomotive's cab, outside the engineer's window, reads "Presented by the Southern Pacific Company to the City of Tracy February 1957." A photograph of the plaque is shown on the Railtown Tracy website.
^A series of photographs of the locomotive taken in 2012 show signs of extensive rust and decay, and evidence of graffiti that has been painted over. An effort by a local group to move and cosmetically restore the locomotive has yet to take place, as of February 2019.
