Lieutenant-General Michael Norman Rouleau (born July 4, 1967)[1] is a Canadian Army officer who became Vice Chief of the Defence Staff on July 15, 2020.[2]
Military career
Rouleau joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1985 as an artillery officer.[3]
In 1999, he retired from the CAF and joined the ranks of the Ottawa Carleton Regional Police Service.[3] However, he re-enrolled in the CAF in 2002 following the events of 9-11.[3]
Rouleau was appointed Commander of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command in February 2014.[4] He was Commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command from June 2018 to March 2020 before being replaced by Lieutenant-General C.J. Coates.[3][5]
Incidents
In 2015, Rouleau accidentally fired his rifle near another military officer.[4] After pleading guilty in martial court in 2016, he was fined 2,000 dollars.[4] At the time of the incident, he was a 28-year veteran of the CAF.[4]
