Woman is a song by English singer and songwriter Foxes from her upcoming third studio album. The song was released as the second single in the United Kingdom on 29 July 2020.
Background
Following the release of "Love Not Loving You", her previous single which was released on 20 May 2020, Foxes again teased more new music on 27 July 2020 in a post on her social media channels accompanied with an animated GIF of herself.[1]. Foxes also teased the title track of her next single, the female glyph symbol (♀) was posted on her pre-save links to the new single, hinting the name of the track and also posted a video of an animated eye with a blue background which was a teaser to the music video.[2]
"Woman" was released at midnight on 29 July 2020. This was Foxes' second single to be released under PIAS Recordings.
Composition
When Foxes teased the single on her social media channels, she stated that "Woman" was 'a very special song to her'.[2]
Music video
The entire music video for "Woman" is animated in 2D by Gemma Green Hope, which was teased by Foxes on a social media post prior to the release of the single.[3]
In the music video, it shows a black figure, which is intended to be a woman, walking, falling, sliding and flying whilst crossing past many eyes that are watching the figure, later, the figure walks past multiple arms which capture the figure who ends up being tied in a string and later sets herself free from the string, the figure then appears standing on what appears to be a mountain, the figure puts her arms on her hips and then flies off.
The music video is accompanied with some of the lyrics to the song, similar to the "Love Not Loving You" music video with the main three lines from the song: "I am a person. I am a human. I am a woman." being featured throughout the video.
