Vasantha Geetha (Kannada: ವಸಂತ ಗೀತ) is a 1980 Indian Kannada romantic drama film, directed by the Dorai - Bhagwan duo. The film stars Rajkumar, Gayathri and Master Lohith in the lead roles.[1]

The film, produced by Nirupama Art Combines, was a musical blockbuster with all the songs composed by M. Ranga Rao considered evergreen hits. The story, lyrics and screenplay were written by Chi. Udaya Shankar. The movie saw a theatrical run of 25 weeks.[2]

A portion of the song Kannalle Eno from this movie was re-used in the title track of the 2010 movie Jackie.[3][4]

Director S.K.Bhagwan had revealed that he was so impressed by an Iranian movie which he saw at an international film festival at New Delhi that he used the core plot of that movie as a reference point for the storyline of this movie.[5]

Plot

Vasanth, an insurance agent stays with his friend Srinivas Murthy's family. He saves a businessman Ashwath from thugs and also has a scuffle with his arrogant girl Geetha, without knowing she is Ashwath's daughter. After a few fights, Vasanth and Geetha fall in love and get married. Unable to adjust to class-differences, the marital life of the couple fills with tension. A son is born to the couple. Geetha suspects Vasanth of infidelity, who actually is tending to sick Srinivas Murthy's wife. She storms away with her son to her father's bungalow. Vasanth now has to get his life back in order and clear doubts from his son's mind as well.

Soundtrack

The music was composed by M. Ranga Rao, with lyrics by Chi. Udaya Shankar.[6] All the songs composed for the film were received extremely well and considered as evergreen songs. A portion of the song Kannalle Eno from this movie was re-used in the title track of the 2010 movie Jackie.[7][8]
