Rokhsana Fiaz (born 1971) is a Labour Party politician serving as Mayor of Newham. Previously elected as a Newham Councillor in 2014, Fiaz was elected in the 2018 election and is the successor to Robin Wales.[1] She received 73.4% of the first preference votes.[2] She is the first directly elected female mayor for any London borough.[2] Fiaz has also promised to hold a referendum on the direct elected mayoral system.[3]

Personal life

Fiaz was born in Mile End, London to parents who had moved to the UK from Pakistan in the 1960s.[4] In 2009 she was awarded an OBE for services for race, faith and charity.[5]
