H.R.H. Princess Hteiktin Ma Lat, also Tin Tin Ma Lat (Template:Lang-my; 13 October 1894 – 1965) was a royal princess of Burma and one of the senior members of the Royal House of Konbaung.[citation needed]
Biography
Hteiktin Ma Lat was born on 13 October 1894 in Calcutta, British India. She was the second daughter of Limbin Mintha, a prince of the Konbaung dynasty and Kin Me (Yenatha Khin Khin Gyi), the princess of Limbin. She was the great-granddaughter of King Tharrawaddy and granddaughter of Prince Kanaung. She studied at Girl's High School in Allahabad, India.
Maurice Collis, a colonial judge and author, wrote in his 1938 book Trials in Burma of receiving a call from Ma Lat in 1928. ‘She sat on the sofa, a beautiful woman, in a blue silk skirt and a jacket of white lawn, her complexion corn-coloured, her eyes large and brilliant, and with exquisite hands.’
Ma Lat met the German crown prince Wilhelm II, who thought her the most striking woman he encountered on his Asian tour.[1]
Engaged
Ma Lat was engaged to Himalayan Prince Sidkeong Tulku Namgyal of Sikkim. In 1912, Prince chose to marry Princess Ma Lat and set the wedding for 24 January 1915 in Rangoon. But unfortunately, Prince Sidkeong has passed away, died of heart failure on 5 December 1914, aged 35, in most suspicious circumstances.[2]
Married
On 19 October 1921, she was married to Herbert Bellamy, a horse breeder and bookmaker of Bombay, Calcutta, Batavia and Singapore, also manager at Maymyo Horse racing Racecourse, and orchid collector.[citation needed] She gave birth to their only daughter Yadana Nat-Mei, born in 1932.[citation needed]
