Gumasthavin Magal (transl. Clerk's daughter) is a 1974 Tamil language film directed by A. P. Nagarajan, starring Sivakumar and Aarathi in the lead roles. Kamal Haasan appears as a villain throughout the film.[1]

Synopsis

Sivakumar is the son of Pandari Bai, a rich man in the village. V. S. Raghavan is a Gumastha who works for the Zamindar (Kamal Hassan). Pandari Bai arranges a marriage between Sivakumar and Aarathi. Kamal is married to Vimala, an innocent girl, but he also has an eye on Aarathi, Gumastha's daughter. He manages to woo her and marry her. In the end, she commits suicide in order to escape from the hands of Kamal Hassan.

This was the first film for noted Kannada actress Aarathi in Tamil.

The music was composed by Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan, while the lyrics were written by "Poovai" Senguttavan and "Ulandhurpettai" Shanmugam.[2]
