Abdullah bin Rashid (Arabic: عبد الله بن علي الرشيد) is the founder of the Emirate of Jabal Shammar. During the Second Saudi State he supported Faisal bin Turki Al Saud against Mishari bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud.[1] Following the former's victory Abdullah bin Rashid was named governor of Ha'il by Faisal bin Turki.[2] When Faisal bin Turki was sent to exile in Cairo, Abdullah bin Rashid declared his independence from Al Saud.[2] Abdullah bin Rashid ruled the Emirate from 1836[3] to 1848. Under his leadership, the Rashidi dynasty contended with the Second Saudi State in Najd and the Ottoman Empire in Iraq. His empire fell to the Saudis in 1921.[4]
