Field Adrianus Cate (born July 22, 1997) is an American actor and musician. He is best known his main role portraying young Ned in the fantasy comedy-drama Pushing Daisies (2007–2009). He is currently lead singer and guitarist of American rock trio Fencer.[1]

Early life

Field Cate was born in Burlington, Vermont, into a lineage of entertainers. He is the great-grandnephew of famous silent film star Esther Ralston, who has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is the great-grandson of Walt Disney's thirteenth employee, Marjorie Ralston, who was an inker and also the first female voice actor for Minnie Mouse, in the 1929 series Wild Waves.[4] [3])

Cate was born and lived first in Vermont, then in Georgia. From the age of three he started to perform in theater and dance productions. His family returned to their hometown in Los Angeles when he was four.

Career

Cate turned professional at the age of five, doing improvisational comedy, independent films, commercials, and other work. Cate also appears in Placebo's music video of "Song to Say Goodbye".

Cate worked in guest roles on various television series including Without a Trace and Cold Case. His most notable role was as Young Ned on ABC's Pushing Daisies becoming a regular cast member in season 2 and earning a Young Artist Award nomination in 2008.

Raised a vegetarian, Cate spoke out on behalf of animal rights group PETA.[2] Cate also supported groups such as Mattel Children's Hospital[3] and served as a StarPower Ambassador for Starlight Children's Foundation.[4]

In May 2017, his band Fencer released their first EP, With[5]; and in February 2019, they released a music video for their single "Junebug."[6] Their second EP, Growing Up Selfish[7], was released on November 1st, 2019.
