Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre was started by the A. Shama Rao Foundation in the year 2009. The medical college and hospital is located in the outskirts of the city Surathkal in Mukka, Mangalore, India. The college is located beside the Edapally-Panvel National Highway No. 66 and is located at an approximate distance of 1 km from the NITK (National Institute of Technology, Karnataka). Considered as one of the worst colleges in mangalore.

Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre is affiliated to RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore) and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

About the foundation

A. Shama Rao Foundation which runs a chain of institutions of higher education, was established in 1988 to realize the dream of Mr. Adka Shama Rao, S/o Late Adka Ramachandrayya, an idealist and dreamer. Having spent most of his time in the field of education, his dream was to build up such educational institutions which mould the character of students and make them responsible citizens of our country.

A. Shama Rao was born in 1909 in a village in Udupi Taluk. After his BA & LT degrees from Madras University, he began his teaching career in Mangalore, in 1939. He was the founder Headmaster of the well-known SVH higher secondary residential school, Mangalore from 1943 – 1956. After his retirement too, he continued to be active in the field of education and social service.

A. Shama Rao was a committed teacher and a great educationist. He firmly believed that only the right kind of education could lead to the overall development of an individual. In his memory, his son, Mr. A. Raghavendra Rao, a famous Chartered Account, Industrialist of Mangalore and now the Chancellor of the newly formed Srinivas University, established the A. Shama Rao Foundation to serve as an intellectual nerve center for science, technology and management with the ability to leverage industrial vibrancy to its advantage. The President is assisted by his illustrious son, Dr A. Srinivas Rao, VIce-President of the Foundation and Pro Chancellor of Srinivas University .

A. Shama Rao Foundation, Mangalore, is a leading education service provider in South Kanara District of Karnataka State. The Foundation is a registered charitable trust with an objective of training young men and women through quality higher education and preparing them for challenges in life.

Mr. A. Shama Rao, was a person who had worked in the field of education as Teacher & Headmaster. The college was established to realize his dream, of empowering the youth so as to build a just and equitable society. The Trust has established several educational institutions called Srinivas Group of Colleges in the field of professional studies. Mr. A Raghavendra Rao, a senior Chartered Accountant and an advisor of Hotel Srinivas now guides and leads the trust, as its President and also as the Chancellor of Srinivas University.

The college comes under the Tulu linguistic minority category and few seats are reserved for such candidates.

Admissions

Admissions to MBBS course is through All India entrance test (NEET) and the total intake per year is 150.
